We are experienced professionals who want to make our clients’ working lives, and our own, better by reducing boring tasks to a minimum. Saving staff time on repetitive work lets lawyers, marketing teams and admins focus on what is important.

Who is handyside.legal?

A product and a practice.

The amount of pointless and expensive duplication in the legal directory submission process is depressing. With handyside.legal it is also unnecessary.

Our ambition is for our product to be the industry standard. We remain focused on improving the software, year after year, for the barristers, marketing teams and admins who use it, and it is now in its fourth iteration, rebuilt from the ground up in 2026.

Between them, our management team has decades of professional services marketing and systems experience. It means we understand our clients’ needs, and are well placed to help with everyday problem-solving, longer-term issues or time-critical crises.

What we do

Three things we set out to remove.

Our strategy has three pillars, and each is something a directories campaign is better without.

  1. Keying errorsIn both the written submissions and the referee spreadsheets.
  2. Cutting and pastingNo need to move text and tables between Word and Excel.
  3. Months of staff timeHundreds of hours of valuable work, given back to people whose time could be more usefully spent.

Our directors have run directory campaigns for sets for years, and know the directories’ people and their processes. Many of our clients use both the software and the service.

Daniel Edelman

Director

Daniel’s 40-year career runs from broking on the floor of the London Stock Exchange to being part of the team that set up the first market-making desk at Cazenove after the deregulation of London’s financial markets. At Cazenove he was the lead broker involved in the development of Fidessa, the equity trading system used worldwide to handle billions of trades a day.

He has been a founder director of several companies, including a corporate finance boutique, an emissions broker, a financial structuring firm, a specialist marketing consultancy (JLE Marketing Ltd) and now handyside.legal.

Away from work he led a successful campaign against a large housing development proposed on a greenfield site in Kent, was then elected to the local council after a contested election, and is now Chair of his Parish Council.

Justine Edelman

Director

Justine is an all-round marketer with a magic circle background at Allen & Overy. She worked in marketing at Sumitomo Bank, VNU (publishing), Gauntlet Insurance Services, Theodore Goddard and Howard Kennedy before going freelance in 2007.

At A&O she devised and implemented client service programmes, first for litigation, which were then rolled out across A&O’s global clients. The initiative started genuine co-operation between internal teams internationally to serve clients better, and is still in place twenty-five years later.

Her other projects include change management programmes, international conferences and events, and legal directories consultancy.
